The short version

We saw and acted on the need for Trinidad and Tobago (“TT”) to accelerate the transition to cleaner and more sustainable activities on a national level. As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) and one with a relatively large carbon footprint and a high dependence on oil and gas production/processing, the destination is clear. The pathway is not. The country has commitments under the Paris Agreement and even bigger challenges, in order to support its economy without oil and gas, become carbon neutral and survive climate change. The transition will positively impact efficiency of the country’s productive sectors, support economic diversification. The result must be long term energy, food and water security, and improved quality of life.

The Founder of CZITT (pronounced “Seize it”), Donald Baldeosingh is a former State Oil Company Chair who established a Caribbean Centre for Climate Change at the National Oil Refinery in 2000. He also chaired “The Tiger Group”, an association of business leaders collaborating to make TT a leader in Information Technology which included a Carbon Trading platform concept. He chaired an international conference on Carbon Trading in 2008. He has been working on a project to release the Renewable Energy potential of the Caribbean for more than 10 years. In 2015, when TT signed the Paris Agreement, Mr Baldeosingh felt that the time had come to shift his full time attention to sustainability matters. Hence CZITT. He reached into his network of like minded professionals, consulted with stakeholders and launched the non profit company at the begining of 2017.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability through research and promotions, engagement, influencing policy, and developing programmes and projects.
